Fresh Maggots (UK) Prog Folk • United Kingdom

Download

Fragmentos do texto original retirado do livro - Rock Raro - O Maravilhoso e deconhecido mundo do rock.

Flute & Voice - Imaginations Of Light (1971) Germany • Indo-Prog/Raga Rock

Download

Imaginations Of Light  dá o tom do álbum. "Resting Thinking About Time" é uma fantástica composição.

The Battered Ornaments - Mantle Piece (1969) UK (Progressive)

 Download

Battered Ornaments were credited as the backup band to Pete Brown on their first album, 1969's A Meal You Can Shake Hands With in the Dark. For the follow-up, however, they chucked Brown out of the band and released it simply as the Battered Ornaments. It's a disappointment after its flawed but worthwhile predecessor, mostly because of Brown's physical absence; although his presence is still felt as the writer or co-writer of most of the songs, his vocals were erased and re-recorded by other members of the band. Brown's gruff voice might not have been that great, or as accessible to the pop audience as many other frontmen's of the time, but it did have character, which is something you can't say for the merely functional replacement vocals by the other musicians. It's also true, however, that the material on this record isn't as good or imaginative as the songs on A Meal You Can Shake Hands With in the Dark, lacking some of the jazz-blues-psychedelic colorings that made that prior LP interesting. The tunes are eclectic but disjointed, and while you can hear some of Brown's unusual and striking lyrical imagery bob up to the surface on some of the better numbers (especially "The Crosswords and the Safety Pins"), the anonymous vocals make their quality far easier to overlook. (The CD reissue on Repertoire adds two non-LP bonus tracks from 1969 singles, "The Week Looked Good on Paper" and "Living Life Backwards.")

Nicosia & C. Industria Musicale • Una favola vera (1973) Rock Progressivo Italiano

 Download

Nicosia & C. Industria Musicale biography
This unique-sounding band from Piemonte, Italy, formed initially in 1971 as a quartet under the leadership of guitarist Nuccio Nicosia. The quartet was soon expanded into a "big band" format, with the addition of four trumpets and four trombones. The musicians eventually recorded their only album, Una Favola Vera, in 1973. Their aspirations were high--they wanted to produce a synthesis of elements of rock, jazz, classical, folk, and pop with lyrics that addressed many problems of society, especially focusing on the issues of immigration from Southern to Northern Italy. The blend of instruments is unique, with a full brass section in addition to the typical RPI instrumental combinations of guitar, bass, piano, organ, Moog, drums, violin, flute, and sax. The result is a delightful album with many elements familiar to RPI fans, but with the addition of the brass section. Described as "a bit intrusive at times," the brass section is nevertheless what sets this band apart from most RPI bands and creates their unique sound. NICOSIA & C. INDUSTRIA MUSICALE often sounds like a more pop-oriented version of OFFICINA MECCANICA, another band with a large brass section, albeit much more adventurous. Traces of SHOWMEN 2 and NAPOLI CENTRALE are also heard. The album is recommended to all fans of RPI and would be a great addition to your music library.

- Nereo Villa / vocals
- Gianni Palumbo / piano, organ, Moog

Balkan Express Rare Jazz & Fusion Gems From The Yugoslavian Vaults(Yugoslavia)

Balkan Express - 2001 - Rare Jazz & Fusion Gems From The Yugoslavian Vaults é uma compilação de bandas da Iugoslávia.

RTB BIG BAND – BALKAN EKSPRES RTB Big Band is institution on it's own. It is like a Jazz academy. Almost everyone who did anything in Jazz in Yugoslavia went through this band. It was formed in 1948 and still going strong. In 1978 they released double album for their 30 anniversary packed with quality music. Balkan Ekspres is just one of them. Tough funky fusion with excellent arrangements.

MISHA BLAM - SECANJE (MEMORY) Misha is the best and probably the most used bass player in Yugoslavia also well known for organizing Belgrade Jazz Festivals. He was a long time companion of Dusko Gojkovic and member of RTB Big band but had some projects as a leader as well. Here is represented with extremely tasteful and deep fusion track from his LP "Secanja" (Memories). The track rises gradually and gets you more and more by every second.

LALA KOVACEV - EMINA Lala is the most original and definitely the best Yugoslavian drummer. Slow and deep fusion with a heavy funky bass line based on the traditional folklore theme. Full of excellent break beats. Check brilliant soulful solos on trumpet and saxophone.

MILAN STOJANOVIC - BAG’S GROOVE This track is taken from the extremely rare 7" EP from 1961 and was the only record that multi instrumentalist Stojanovic recorded under his name. He plays flute on this track and resemblance to Yusef Lateef is unbelievable. I had to check cover to make sure.

DUSKO GOJKOVIC - QUO VADIS SAMBA There is no need to talk about trumpeter Dusko. He is the best known Yugoslavian musician. Quo Vadis Samba is taken from the LP "Trumpet and Rhythm Units" and is Jazz Samba at it's best. It drives all the way through. Tip for DJs: Play it in a mix with Shamek Farrah's "Waiting For Marvin".

GABY NOVAK - CARAVAN Gaby is well known singer but not in Jazz. Popular music and ballads were her forte. Digging through the crates I was supprised to find her Jazz 10" from the early 60’s including this astonishing version of Caravan. Very trippy 60’s sound and beautiful voice of Gaby will definitely move you up. The most enlightening version I've ever heard. Works excellent in clubs.

BIG BAND RTS - NE GA SI PRODAVAJ RTB Big Band under the new name (Radio Television Serbia) strikes back. After all these years the quality has just improved. Amazing combination of Macedonian and Latino rhythms, and when you expect the least, beautiful string arrangements. It is a masterpiece and knowing that guests are Stjepko Gut, Peter Mihelich, Reggie Johnson and Alvin Queen there is no wonder. It is also worth mentioning String Ensemble “Jazzart”.

BORA ROKOVIC - STRING-EM Pianist Rokovic was for many years member of RTB Big Band and also known by his work on MPS. String-Em is a soundtrack style composition consistent of several parts. It changes mood several times, from strings arrangements to Jazz-Fusion with solid bass line and back. Other musicians on this track are RTB Studio Ensemble and Mica Markovic on tenor sax with mad, mad solo at the end.

01-RTB BIG BAND - Balkan Ekspres-6:53
02 -MISHA BLAM - Memory-7:54
03 -LALA KOVACEV - Emina-7:41
04 -MILAN STOJANOVIC - Bag's Groove-3:37
05-DUSKO GOJKOVIC - Quo Vadis Samba-5'44
06-GABY NOVAK - Caravan-2:14
07-RTB BIG BAND - Ne ga se prodavaj-6:49

The Vampires Of Dartmoore - Draculas Music Cabinet (1969) Krautrock (Germany)

Download

The Vampires Of Dartmoore (Germany)

What an incredible thing this is! Ahead of time for 1969 in any case - reflecting a progressive approach with some great ideas, intelligent compositions and a lot of scary effects. The songs are not crossing the three minute mark - designed like soundtracks, influenced by respectively adapted for thriller and horror movies. A whacked-out mix of plain dance music, freaky kraut-related elements plus samples with a lot of nightmare effects. You will find great fuzzy guitar and hammond organ appearance here and there! Responsible for this production are Horst Ackermann and Heribert Thusek who essentially composed Schlager and jazz music. Not digitally re-released yet the vinyl version is traded between 300 and 500 Euro today.
I don't know anything about the line-up. They must have been prolific studio musicians by all means. It is said the album is also featured by Sigfried (Sigi) Schwab, a soundtrack composer and jazz oriented guitarist who worked with Eberhard Schoener and Embryo for some time. But there are some doubts to remark. What I know is that Schwab had produced another less freaky dance album at the same time under the moniker 'Vampire's Sound Incorporation'.
The first song must be derived from the movie 'The Torture Chamber of Dr. Sadism' starring Lex Barker and Christopher Lee. Moans as well as screams of agony - you might detect hints about a relationship between sex and sadism. Only reduced to the excellently staged organ you will get enough horror feeling. A hypnotic bass and some fuzzed guitar contributions are also given here. Crime and Horror on the other hand is played like simple 60s dance music with a slight jazzy touch and cool saxophone input. Some funny voice samples are integrated which makes the song more attractive. A man scares a woman but she fights back soon! Both songs are typical for characterizing the whole album content.
I'd like to point out some other tunes which are reflecting the album's progressiveness. The spooky Tanz der Vampire contains elements of the upcoming Hip-Hop - this special beat, the deep pumping bass. DJ Spinna later integrated this song into his work for example. And this beat also reminds me of CAN a little bit. A weird organ and some wonderful psychedelic guitar additions are also to detect. Definitely an album highlight. The jazzy Der Henker von Dartmoore could also be presented by Wolfgang Dauner in this way (apart from those excellently placed voice samples of course). Dr. Caligari's Gruselkabinett knocks at the three minute door because of a longer superb organ solo.
A very interesting production also fitting for your Halloween party. I would say I'm listening to a proto kraut album. A lot of funny things to detect. Despite of the weird implementation many popular elements are also offered. It remembers me at the old times when the whole family met in front of the TV on Saturday evening for watching the new Durbridge thriller (huahhh ... Klaus Kinski is coming ...) (Progarchive)
